Just doing a little reflection on my exercise-binding book 2.
I really love the freedom we are giving to do almost anything; well from today’s presentations, anything was only what we did. Mmm cookie book yum yum. Thumbs up for that idea, food wins everyone over, although would have gone nice if I had some tea.
I loved doing my book. Was too much fun almost and that is hard at times in Design, as we have to pull back I find often rather then go crazy with our ideas.
My idea came to me cause I love geography. I love how old globes used to look and that was my idea at first when creating the book. I wanted this old stylebook with a modern twist, and that being the 3D world in the book. -Why bother to use pages, right?- So as I made my book, I found that it would be a nice tease to have the book appear old looking but make it clean cut, almost modern looking. To have this juxtaposition between modern and old was something that excited me. That is why I used gloss paper, to give a more modern look, as I found mat paper make the images after printing appear old or dull. So yea, the gloss paper, bad mistake I found out as I began printing on a Jet Ink printer. Grr. Stupid paper could not hold the black ink and would run, making it messy and seemed to degrade the look of my book. =( Really piss me off after having so much passion go into my book. Although I do hope everyone enjoyed it, I truly loved the idea and aimed to make sure no one would see something like what I did coming.
WOW my brain is dead today, I’m getting lost in my own thoughts.
Another area I need to work on is being able to connect hardcover pages, with the spine. I made a several signature binding as an exercise, just to show I can do it as we learned it in class. Looking forward to next class and learning how to add a hardcover to signatures. ^_^
